Film Synopsis
Coen brothers' western, based on the 1968 novel by Charles Portis. True Grit sees the Coen's reunite with Big Lebowski star Jeff Bridges. Following the murder of her father by hired hand Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin), 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfield) sets out to capture the killer. To aid her, she hires the toughest US marshal she can find, Reuben J. 'Rooster' Cogburn (Bridges). Mattie insists on accompanying Cogburn, a drinking, slothful, and generally reprobate character. Against his wishes, she joins him in his trek into the Indian Nations in search of Chaney. They are joined by Texas Ranger LaBoeuf (Matt Damon), who wants Chaney for his own purposes. A previous adaptation of True Grit was made in 1969, starring John Wayne, Glen Campbell, Robert Duvall and Dennis Hopper.
