This low-budget comedy of errors starring the blonde dream-time of Pamela Anderson and Denise Richards gets off to a good start with an amusing sequence at flight school but then runs out of steam fairly quickly. The film has a good title that sums up the proceedings, hey it’s Dumb and Dumber with two blondes, but sadly that Jim Carrey film is an absolute masterpiece compared to this. The plot, if you could call it a plot, revolves around a case of mistaken identity when the local mafia begins to believe that Pamela and Denise are female assassins. Later on when the two blondes are informed of their mission they get a little lost in translation as they don’t know that the term “Take em out” means kill them not date them. In fact most of the jokes in this absurd, mad-cap comedy are derived from misinterpretations and misunderstandings.

Surprisingly “Blonde and Blonder” is amusing at times but that’s only when the two blondes are on the screen. The ditzy nature of their characters keeps you watching but there is not enough quality humor to keep you chuckling. As soon as the girls are out of the picture the film gets bogged down with labored mafia stereotypes that are just not funny at all and the negatives seem to outweigh the positives. There are dumb blonde jokes a-plenty such as liquid paper painted on a computer screen to cover-up typing errors and if that’s not enough there is blondes bouncing on beds, blondes dancing in matching leotards, a pet turtle with a flatulence problem and of course our two blondes come complete with an assortment of revealing outfits. It’s all pretty juvenile stuff but I guess what do you expect?  I am sure that there is an audience for this kind of stupidity. Plus, guess what? There are no Oscar winning performances in this one, but that’s not to say they can’t win something, there is always the Raspberry awards for prizes.

The misstep with “Blonde And Blonder” is that it builds up certain scenarios but then lets you down big-time. The idea of the Blondes going to Niagara Falls raises some interest and the scenery looks spectacular in a quick montage reel but then we don’t even get a scene of the girls at the Falls. It seems that the Niagara Falls montage was nothing more than left-over stock footage. The girls’ Niagara Falls scenes were obviously shot somewhere else, certainly not at the Falls. As it turns out the entire film was shot on location in Canada and cheaply at that. When it comes to the crunch there is simply no pay off and many scenes end flat. To top it off the film has a speed boat finale that had enormous potential to be something special but in the end it’s an absolute let down. Nothing much happens on the water and it is not long before we get a weak epilogue before the end credits roll.

Just like the film’s tagline suggests, “Blonde And Blonder” is “a no-brainer”, that’s one thing they did get right! You pick this one up at your local DVD store and you get exactly what you paid for, a 90 minute all-out attempt at comedy. I use the word attempt because it’s no more than a collection of hits and misses but mainly misses. If seeing two blondes making absolute fools of themselves in a variety of silly situations tickles your funny-bone, then that’s exactly what you get with this film. For some people that’s entertainment in itself. For others you have been warned.  I was going to give this film an extra ½ star but the ending is such a real fizzer I didn’t have the courage to give it anymore than 1 star. Watch “Blonde And Blonder” only if you have a need to see all of Pamela Anderson’s on-screen work or you are housebound and have nothing else to do with your time. Heck, watching an episode of “Baywatch” would even be a better option, but then again you would have to be a stooge not to guess that, right!
